Alternative Fuels Expansion

Alternative Fuels Expansion is a common term that refers to the rapid growth of the alternative fuel industry.

Alternative Fuels Expansion

There is no doubt that interest in alternative fuel is expanding rapidly. There are several factors driving this expansion in alternative fuel. The primary factor is an increasing concern for the environment. This concern has come to be called the Green Movement by many environmentalists. The Green Movement is concerned about a variety of harmful side effects that result from the use of conventional fuels. It is the burning of fossil fuels in internal combustion engines or power generating plants that is being blamed for increased greenhouse gases and global warming.

Another factor in alternative fuels expansion is the idea of a limited supply. Although it has been a common misconception that the supplies of fossil fuels are limitless, this is not true. It is not necessary for the supply to suddenly run out completely in order to create chaos in the world. Many experts are predicting that unless alternative fuel use expansion takes place now, we will reach a point where demand exceeds supply within as little as another ten years.

Ever since fossil fuels supplanted wood and water power as the source of energy for a newly emerging industrial world, they have been a catalyst for war and international tensions. Today, the Middle East is, at the same time, the leading producer of oil and the major source of international unrest. Many people feel that the increased use of alternative fuels will lead to energy independence. This is the political cause of alternative fuel expansion.

Energy costs have risen to high levels mainly based on the cost of locating, procuring, and processing raw fossil fuels into a usable product. The idea that supply is going to be losing ground to demand in the coming years will only lead to increased costs. In case of actual shortages, cost will become the deciding factor in availability as well. One of the driving forces of alternative fuel expansion is to discover and develop lower cost fuels.

The search for cheaper, better, and more environmentally friendly fuels has been expanding in recent years, but the coming years should see this trend accelerate even more rapidly. All of the factors driving the expansion such as environment, availability, political, and cost are coming together at the same time to make alternative fuels one of the most important issues the world will have to face in the near future.
